Can one become a citizen of the Principality of Sealand?

Citizens of Sealand have the nationality of the Principality of Sealand.

The nationality of Sealand is available to persons who are qualified for and committed to an active co-operation in the realisation of the goals and ideals of Sealand.

The Sealand nationality is not meant for people whose main interest lies in avoiding of the laws and taxes of other countries.

How to apply for Citizenship of the Principality of Sealand?

Please send the following documents:

1. Detailed curriculum vitae
2. A certificate issued by the police, stating that you have no criminal record
(If for political reasons such a certificate cannot be presented or is incriminating for those reasons, please give an explanation)
3. Give your reasons for applying for the Sealand citizenship
4. Explain in what way you would be willing and able to promote the goals of the Principality of Sealand

Can passports or diplomatic passports of the Principality of Sealand be bought?

Irrevocably NO!
No serious state is selling passport or diplomatic passports.
But every state has the problem that criminal elements forge passports and other official documents. Unfortunately, Sealand was not spared this either – and the press reported it.

Is there a Sealand lottery?

No, there isn’t. But there are corresponding proposals.

Does the Principality of Sealand offer commercial and financial services?

It is not the task of the Principality of Sealand to make commercial and financial services available. Sealand can however licence corresponding companies who are committing themselves to the Sealand goals and ideals.

Can titles be bought in the Principality of Sealand?

Just as Sealand passports are not for sale, no academic, aristocratic or any other titles or orders are available against payment. It does not correspond to Sealand ethics to make it possible for honours and decoration to be bought.

Taxes

Due to recent international developments the tax plan of the Principality of Sealand is being completely remodelled and will upon completion be presented to the Sealanders.

What about Napster and similar companies?

The Principality of Sealand is supportive of all options that enable the free citizens of this world to avail themselves of their natural undiminished rights.

The Principality of Sealand also defends the right of every citizen to have creative achievements adequately compensated. The Principality of Sealand does not presume to pass judgement on whether the compensations of some media or sports stars (compared to achievements in science, for example) are adequate or should be subjected to corrective measures.

Does the Principality of Sealand have armed forces?

The Principality of Sealand has a security section, but no military-style armed forces. Today there are more effective measures for self-protection. In recent years the so called mighty states had been forced to realise through experience that brute force leads to unfavourable results.

What about the “Running Battle in the North Sea” the press reported years ago?

In the knowledge that violent actions against the Principality of Sealand contravene international law, Great Britain tried to sink the platform “Roughs Tower” by sending warships to attack it. The persons on “Roughs Tower” at the time, among others Roy Bates, were not intimidated and shot across the bow of one of the warships from old canons that after World War Two had been left behind on the former flak platform.
